Russian MFA: there are no Russian military personnel in the combat zone in Libya

27 April 2020

At the moment, there are no Russian servicemen in the combat zone on the territory of Libya, the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry, published today on the Department's website, reads.

At the moment, there are no Russian servicemen in the combat zone on the territory of Libya, The Foreign Ministry has not received reliable data on Russian citizens who took part in clashes on the territory of Libya and died," the message stressed.

On April 12, a number of Arab media reported the destruction of the operational headquarters of the so-called Wagner Russian private military company (PMC)  in Salah al-Din area, allegedly fighting on the side of the Libyan National Army of Khalifa Haftar.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the mentioned reports were not the first speculation about the participation of "Russian" PMCs in the intra-Libyan conflict.

"Such" throw-ins " are intended to create a false impression that Moscow allegedly intervened in the inter-Libyan armed conflict, openly taking the side of one of its participants. In reality, Russia is fully contributing to the ceasefire and political settlement of the crisis in Libya. We have never shown any intention to support any of the conflicting parties," the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.
