The Palestinian delegation at the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly wanted to apply for full membership in the Organization, but the United States blocked the process, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said at a press conference on Wednesday.
"This year, at this high-level session of the week, the Palestinian delegation led by Palestinian President [Mahmoud] Abbas wanted to apply for full UN membership for Palestine. There were efforts that were blocked by the US because they don't let it go through the Security Council," the diplomat pointed out.
President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas stated in August that the Palestinians intended to apply to the Security Council for full UN membership.
