Russian military police have begun escorting civilian transport convoys on a section of the strategically important M-4 highway in Idlib, Syria, the center for reconciliation (CR) reports.
"Thanks to joint efforts of CR with local authorities in the Syrian provinces of Raqqa and al-Hasakah since May 25, accompanying of civil vehicles on the section of the highway M-4 between the villages of Ain Issa and Tal Tamr (a distance of over 160 miles) was organized," the release reads.
Earlier, only Russian-Turkish patrols were monitoring the truce in the section of the highway M-4.
Civilians were forced to travel by bypass roads, while the distance between these localities was more than doubled, up to 350 kilometers.
The columns on the ground are accompanied by military police, and Russian drones monitor the situation from the air.
Civil transport will be escorted daily in opposite directions from Ain Issa and Tal Tamr.
