22 July 2021

Russian soldiers from the Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria conducted a medical and humanitarian action for the Orthodox communities in the province of Hasakah, Dmitry Breduchev, head of the center's group for the formation and delivery of humanitarian supplies, told reporters.

"We are conducting a humanitarian action together with the Orthodox Church. We have attracted all Orthodox provinces to the event in the village of Safiya. The maximum number of people, in particular, and the Armenian community, were present at today's event," he said, adding that 300 food packages with a total weight of about two tons were given out.

In addition, members of the special medical squad provided medical assistance to community members. "The medical detachment together with the Center for the reconciliation of the warring parties participates in the humanitarian action. The main task of the medical detachment at this humanitarian action is to provide medical assistance to the local population in the form of primary health care, as well as distribution of individual medical protection equipment, which includes individual masks, gloves, and bandages," said Bagryakov, head of the detachment. The distribution took place at a local church. Representatives of the communities then gave a concert for the Russian troops.

The Orthodox in Syria are represented by the Antiochian Orthodox Church, the Syrian Orthodox Church and the Armenian Apostolic Church. During the war in Syria, they were persecuted and terrorized by militants.
