Russian Mission Highlights Western Hypocrisy in Supplying Weapons to Kill Civilians

06 June

Russia's political coordinator in the UN Security Council (UNSC), Nadezhda Sokolova, has criticized Western countries for their hypocrisy in supplying weapons that kill civilians while ostensibly promoting peace.

"Western delegations to the UNSC have revealed their monthly agenda to convene meetings on Ukraine—repetitive and artificially stretched topics. Additionally, they aim to push their clearly doomed 'peace conference' on June 15-16 in Bürgenstock, Switzerland,” Sokolova stated on her Telegram channel.

Sokolova mentioned that the meeting requested by Russia for June 14 would address a genuinely critical issue for international peace and security: the authorization of strikes on Russian territories using Western weapons. "This is an opportune moment to discuss peace and the supposed peacefulness of those who hypocritically talk about peace while arming criminals to kill civilians,” she emphasized.

On May 31, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that US President Joe Biden had approved US weapons strikes on Russian territory. According to Blinken, these strikes would target Russian areas near Kharkiv, though he did not rule out the possibility of expanding the range of strikes using American weapons on Russian territory. On the same day, the German Cabinet of Ministers stated that German weapons could be used “to defend against attacks” by Russia near the Kharkiv region. However, there is no consensus among Western countries on restrictions regarding the use of their weapons in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted on May 28 that the targeting and flight assignments for modern strike systems are handled remotely or automatically, without any involvement of Ukrainian servicemen. This task is carried out by those who manufacture and supply these strike systems to Ukraine, he stressed. Putin warned that NATO countries should “understand what they are playing with.” Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, indicated on May 31 that all long-range weapons supplied to Ukraine are already “directly controlled by NATO servicemen,” suggesting that such actions could provoke retaliatory strikes.
