Soldiers of the special purpose medical unit have deployed a field hospital in Stepanakert, which will assist the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"Units of the medical detachment of special purpose have deployed a field hospital in Stepanakert," the report says. The Russian military department specified that the modules of the military hospital were deployed at the territory of the airport in Stepanakert.

Specialists of the medical unit will organize "medical support of the peacekeeping contingent" and provide necessary assistance to the population of Nagorno-Karabakh. The hospital is ready to accommodate up to 40 people.

The Ministry of Defense noted that more than 60 medical specialists, including military surgeons, anesthesiologists-resuscitators, therapists and epidemiologists have arrived in the region. They were moved by IL-76 military transport aircraft from Khabarovsk to Yerevan.

A total of 122 servicemen, 54 units of automotive and special equipment and 66 tons of material will be moved to Nagorno-Karabakh to deploy a special medical unit of the Eastern Military District, the ministry added.

Russian peacekeepers are in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone in accordance with the agreements signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on November 9 in their joint statement on a complete ceasefire in the region. The core of the peacekeeping contingent consists of units of the 15th Independent Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Central Military District. Russian observation posts are deployed along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor linking Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. The command of the peacekeeping operation is located in Stepanakert.
