Experts of the Security Council (SB) of the Russian Federation pointed to the increased activity of criminal structures, which transfer migrants from Africa and Asia to Europe. This was stated to reporters by Assistant Secretary of the Security Council Alexei Pavlov following a meeting of the Scientific Council of the agency.
According to him, experts analyzed the main reasons for the explosive growth of migration in the world in recent decades. First of all, these include the difference in the level of development of the countries. At the same time, other reasons for these processes were discussed.
"Criminal structures involved in the transfer of people from Africa and Asia to Europe became significantly more active. Revenues of criminal business from the trafficking of migrants in the world, according to rough estimates, are from €3 billion to €6 billion per year", he noted.
In addition, Pavlov continued, the geopolitical situation and political conflicts that take place in different countries and regions of the world provoke the flow of migrants to calmer areas. "Here it is appropriate to recall the wars and conflicts of recent decades in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Sudan, Congo, and Afghanistan. All of them led to the formation of large flows of refugees and migrants," he explained.
The Security Council assistant secretary states that migration connected with climate change is still urgent. Natural disasters remain the main reason for climate migration nowadays, he pointed out.
The session was held on Monday. It was held by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev.
