Russian Security Council: West tries to spoil Russia-Kazakhstan relations

23 June 2023

Western countries are trying to have a negative impact on relations between Russia and Kazakhstan, directly and unceremoniously interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign states. Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Alexei Shevtsov said this on Friday during Russia-Kazakhstan security consultations.

"Russia-Kazakhstan relations are being negatively influenced by Western countries. The US and its allies are trying to 'fuel' nationalist sentiments, spread slander and manipulate public opinion, including through the Internet and social networks. This is direct and unceremonious interference into the internal affairs of independent states," he said.

As Shevtsov noted, relations between Russia and Kazakhstan are based on centuries-old traditions of friendship and an extensive legal framework. "This year marks the 10th anniversary of signing the fundamental treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan on good-neighborliness and alliance in the 21st century. Economic, political and cultural ties are being progressively strengthened," the deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council pointed out.

Shevtsov added that the Anglo-Saxons are used to parasitizing the whole world, so they see a threat in the strengthened cooperation between the CIS countries.

"It should be clearly understood: the strengthening of cooperation between the post-Soviet countries poses a direct threat to the neocolonial ambitions of the Anglo-Saxons, who are used to parasitizing the rest of the world. Their methods are known and well-studied - pressure, blackmail, provocations, as well as inciting conflicts. Both Russia and Kazakhstan know it well," he said.

Shevtsov stressed that Russia and Kazakhstan are standing shoulder to shoulder against modern challenges and threats to security in Central Asia, including terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, arms smuggling and drug trafficking.

"This cooperation will be strengthened and expanded in the interests of our states," he concluded.
