Russian specialists have already trained over 6,000 Tajik military personnel, Alexander Lapin, commander of the Central Military District (CMD), told reporters.

"We are actively working to train military personnel for Tajikistan's army. This year, Russian instructors have completed the training of about 1,000 junior specialists of the national armed forces. As of today, more than 6,000 servicemen of Tajikistan have already been trained," Lapin said.

He recalled that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu identified the main directions for neutralization of terrorist threats coming from Afghanistan. These are joint exercises on a bilateral basis and within the CSTO, additional gratuitous supplies of Russian arms and hardware to equip the army of Tajikistan, training of local qualified personnel in Russian military high schools and at the 201st Russian base, strengthening of the combat potential of the base itself and refinement of plans on joint repulsion of possible militants' infiltration.

"In order to implement the set tasks, we have already held nine international joint exercises of military contingents of CSTO and Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries. At the end of the training year on November 8-12 in the Republic of Tatarstan we will hold another joint exercise 'Unbreakable Brotherhood-2021' with the participation of military contingents of six countries," stressed Lapin.

The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is the largest military facility of Russia outside the country. It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It includes motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense, air defense and communication units.
