A meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey, Syria and Iran will be held in Astana on June 21. Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters on Wednesday.
"A large Russian delegation is heading to Astana. On June 21, there will be a meeting at the level of deputy foreign ministers [of Russia, Iran, Turkey, Syria]," he said.
A four-party meeting on the Syrian peace settlement at the level of foreign ministers was held in Moscow on May 10.
Ankara's relations with Damascus have deteriorated since the start of the conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic in 2011. A wave of Syrian refugees poured into Turkey then, and diplomatic ties between the two countries were severed. In a commentary to TASS, Bogdanov expressed hope that Russia's mediation mission on the issue would turn into a "shared success."
