14 February 2022

A group of Russian troops in Syria has information about the US intelligence services' plans to orient "dormant" extremists in Syria to actions against local security forces and Russian and Iranian servicemen and is taking appropriate measures, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov told reporters on Monday.

"The group has this information, so they are taking appropriate measures, they have it all worked out," he said, responding to a related question from TASS.

Earlier, the press service of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reported that the US intelligence services are planning to target dormant extremist cells in Damascus, the surrounding region and Latakia province to carry out targeted actions against members of the Syrian security agencies as well as Russian and Iranian servicemen.
