A group of Russian armed forces in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) received 50 Christmas trees from Karelia, Lieutenant Colonel Anatoly Trukhin, Deputy Commander of the Russian Armed Forces in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR), told reporters.
"As part of preparations for the New Year celebrations, 50 Christmas trees from Karelia arrived especially for the group of Russian troops in Syria. They will be installed in the duty stations of our troops, including remote outposts. There is no snow in Syria in winter, but we tried to create a festive atmosphere for our troops," Trukhin said.
He noted that in addition to the Christmas trees themselves, Christmas toys were delivered to Syria, as well as cards and drawings collected by young soldiers from all over Russia for everyone who is serving far from their homeland. In addition, concerts with Russian and Soviet New Year's music will be held in places of deployment during the holiday period.
Since 2015, Russia has been helping the official authorities in the fight against terrorists at the request of Damascus.
