Russia's Permanent Representative in Vienna: talks on restoring the Iran deal are at the final phase

22 February 2022

Negotiations to restore the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program are at the final phase, Mikhail Ulyanov, head of the Russian delegation to the Iranian talks and Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, said on Tuesday.

" I met with Enrique Mora, the EU representative to the negotiations in Vienna. We exchanged views on the current state of affairs. Apparently, negotiations on the restoration of the JCPOA are approaching the finish line," Ulyanov wrote on his Twitter page.

The eighth round of talks is underway in Vienna to restore the JCPOA to its original form and return the US to the multilateral agreement. The work is being done through consultations by the Joint Commission of Iran and the Five (Russia, Britain, Germany, China and France), separate consultations with the US without the Islamic republic's participation, and in the format of three working groups. Negotiators are working on a draft final agreement. It is expected that the eighth round could be the last; the negotiators were set to finish the work in February 2022.
