Russia's State Duma to Discuss Ratification of Strategic Partnership Treaty with Iran

31 March

Russia's State Duma will review the ratification of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty with Iran in April, according to Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

"We will try to ratify it as soon as possible. The bill is a priority for April," Volodin told reporters.

Volodin emphasized that the treaty marks a historic milestone in Russia-Iran relations, elevating cooperation to a new level across key sectors.

A key aspect of the agreement is strengthened parliamentary cooperation, including joint work in international parliamentary organizations and the Russia-Iran Cooperation Commission.

"The commission introduces a new format for inter-parliamentary collaboration, allowing us to address specific cooperation issues," Volodin added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted the treaty for ratification in March, following its January signing during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Moscow.

The agreement establishes a legal framework for long-term Moscow-Tehran cooperation and defines their status as strategic partners, covering all major areas of interaction.
