Rustam Minnikhanov speaks at II World Tolerance Summit in Dubai

Interethnic and interfaith peace and harmony is the key to stability and the prospect of our further development, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of the Group of strategic vision "Russia – Islamic world" said at the plenary session of the World Tolerance Summit in Dubai.


The head of Tatarstan said that about 4 million people and representatives of 173 nationalities live in Tatarstan.


"Our Republic has a unique experience: for thousands of years, representatives of two traditional faiths – Islam and Orthodox Christianity-have peacefully coexisted here. We have full mutual understanding", quotes, in particular, Minnikhanov his press service
The President noted that the Republic has built an approach of simultaneous reconstruction of Muslim and Orthodox shrines. A striking example is the Kazan Kremlin, where the Kul Sharif mosque and the Orthodox Annunciation Cathedral are located.


A lot of work has been done to revive the island-city of Sviyazhsk and the Ancient Bolghar. Minnikhanov added that a lot of attention is paid to religious education in the Republic.


"People can be subject to different currents. Therefore, we make sure that the system of Islamic and Orthodox education is verified, and various harmful ideas do not generate any problems," he stressed.


Rustam Minnikhanov also told the forum participants about the activities of the Bulgarian Islamic Academy, the holding of the annual KazanSummit international economic summit in the capital of Tatarstan and the development of the Halal industry.
