The Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a festive service dedicated to the holiday of Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram). The solemn sermon and prayer in the historical mosque "Al-Marjani" in Kazan was conducted by the Mufti of Tatarstan Kamil Samigullin. In total, 2 thousand believers gathered in the mosque this morning.
Eid al-Fitr is one of the main Muslim holidays, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Mufti of Tatarstan read out a congratulatory telegram from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Head of State emphasized the effective assistance that Muslims provide to participants and veterans of the special military operation, their families and friends.
Kamil Samigullin also read out the address of the Rais of Tatarstan on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. The Rais of the Republic emphasized that recently a number of important events have taken place in the life of Muslims of Tatarstan, which have rightfully entered the historical annals of the republic. The achievements were also confirmed by the fact that Kazan was awarded the high honor of being the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World in 2026.
Kamil Samigullin also highlighted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In recognition of this, 2025 has been designated as the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in both the country and the republic. In his sermon, the mufti emphasized the themes of bravery, patriotism, protection, and love for the homeland.
The Al-Marjani Mosque is named after Shigabutdin Marjani, an esteemed scholar and theologian who lived from 1818 to 1889. It is symbolic that today the Mufti of Tatarstan was holding the Marjani staff, borrowed for the duration of his service at the local National Museum.
The mosque was built in 1766-1770 with the personal permission of Catherine II. Today, Al-Marjani is the oldest mosque in Kazan and a center of attraction for numerous guests and tourists. Last year, the mosque was thoroughly renovated for the BRICS Summit. An interactive museum was opened in the building, telling the story of Islam in Russia.
