Ryabkov: BRICS to Discuss Syria and Develop Unified Approaches

16 December

The BRICS group plans to address the situation in Syria and work toward unified approaches to ongoing developments, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and BRICS Sherpa Sergei Ryabkov. Speaking to the Analytical Center of TASS, Ryabkov reflected on Russia's chairmanship of the group.

“Within BRICS, we discuss all matters concerning the Middle East, and naturally, this issue will also be on the agenda. BRICS already has a longstanding format for specialized consultations on the Middle East, involving deputy foreign ministers responsible for the region,” he explained. “I hope these discussions will go beyond mere exchanges of views, leading to deeper coordination and, ideally, the development of unified approaches,” Ryabkov emphasized.

He highlighted the growing importance of an inclusive political process to determine Syria's future governance framework. “The current situation is highly fragmented and transitional in nature. BRICS will naturally focus on this as part of its discussions,” the deputy minister concluded.
