Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov discussed prospects for returning to full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to resolve the Iranian nuclear program (JCPOA) during consultations in Moscow with US Special Representative for Iran Robert Mally, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on the results of the consultations held on Wednesday and Thursday.
"A meaningful exchange of views on the prospects for restoring full implementation of the JCPOA took place. Both sides confirmed their firm determination to continue interaction in the Vienna format with the involvement of all the countries participating in the JCPOA, including Iran, as well as US representatives," the document said.
Smolensk Square noted the important role of Tehran's readiness to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. The consultations also stressed the need to build on the results of the intensive rounds of talks held in April and June, the foreign ministry added.
"The significant constructive contribution of the IAEA to the process of stabilizing and "restarting" the JCPOA was emphasized. There was a mutual intention to continue supporting the Agency's verification activities in light of UNSCR 2231," the statement said.
Rosatom deputy director-general Nikolay Spassky and US deputy energy secretary David Huizenga took part in the consultations.
