Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said he does not consider the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program "buried."
"I wouldn't say the JCPOA is buried, but it is in the intensive care ward," the diplomat said at a press conference Thursday. According to Ryabkov, Moscow sees no sensible and reasonable alternative to the JCPOA.
"From time to time, participants of this agreement reaffirm their commitment to the basic understandings laid down in it, which successfully helped ensure stability and strengthened, among other things, regional security until the unilateral, defiant withdrawal of the United States from the agreement," the deputy minister continued. - "Naturally, the sooner the US returns to the agreement and fully meets its obligations under Security Council Resolution 2231, the better."
The deputy foreign minister drew attention to Iran's continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. "In a number of areas there are still issues to be discussed, to be resolved. All is not lost on the JCPOA," Ryabkov stated.
