Ryabkov: US needs to stop its escalation of relations with Russia

22 March 2022

Washington should abandon the escalation of relations with Russia and stop "pumping" Ukraine with weapons, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on Tuesday.

"The statement of the question of what should be done to preserve relations is certainly correct. They (the US - TASS) simply need to stop in their escalation both verbally and in terms of "pumping" the Kiev regime with weapons. They need to stop making threats against Russia," he said.

Ryabkov also said that US-Russian relations are on the verge of breaking down, and their future prospects depend on what line Washington chooses. "Yesterday a note of protest was handed over to the American ambassador, noting that what is happening has put [Russian-American] relations on the verge of breaking down. There is nothing beyond what was said there. I once again emphasize that the question is what line the US will choose," said the deputy minister.

He added that the US actions have no effect on Moscow's determination to move toward the goals of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. "So far we see a downward trend due to the fault of the US in relations with our country," he said. - "We accept this with regret, but it has no effect on our determination to move toward achieving the goals of the special military operation [by Russia in Ukraine]."

According to Ryabkov, Washington's actions to worsen relations with Moscow cannot prevent Russia from adapting to the sanctions imposed against it. "It has no effect on our determination to adapt to the circumstances related to the US sanctions that the European satellites of the United States have imposed at their behest," he said.

That said, Washington is unlikely to have a positive impact on Kiev, although it would outline some prospect for normalizing US-Russian relations, Ryabkov added. "If they [the US] manage to have some positive impact on Kyev, which I not only doubt, but I am sure it will not happen, unfortunately, then there will be, I think, some prospect for the normalization [of US-Russian] relations," the deputy minister said.
