Saudi Arabia's cabinet of ministers has approved a memorandum granting the kingdom the status of a dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The Saudi Press Agency reported this on Wednesday night.
According to its reports, the cabinet meeting was chaired Tuesday by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Specifically, the Saudi government approved a memorandum granting the kingdom the status of SCO dialogue partner.
Current SCO members include China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia have observer status, while Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka are partner countries. On September 16, 2022, at the summit in Samarkand memorandums on partnership on dialogue were signed with Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and it was decided to launch the procedure for granting the status of dialogue partners to Bahrain, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar and the United Arab Emirates.
