Saudi Arabia called for an emergency fund to fight the coronavirus

Saudi Arabia, which holds the G20 presidency this year, has called on countries and international organizations to raise the $ 8 billion needed to fight the world's coronavirus pandemic as soon as possible. This amount was determined by the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board in the health sector.


So far, $ 1.9 billion has been raised.


Earlier, Saudi Arabia announced the allocation of 500 million dollars under this initiative.


"We highly appreciate the existing attempts to finance the Fund and emphasize the urgent need to eliminate the deficit," the communique says, in particular.


According to the latest WHO data, more than 2.5 million cases of the coronavirus infection have been recorded in the world, more than 175 thousand people died.
