If US President Donald Trump decides to impose a ban on oil imports from Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom may redirect oil tankers bound for the US to other markets, Reuters reports, citing its sources.
"Two sources reported that Saudi Arabia is studying whether it will be able to redirect cargo to other countries if the United States stops importing," the source said.
Currently, about 40 million barrels of Saudi oil are on the way to the United States, as noted. The tankers should reach the States in the next few weeks.
Trump announced his intention to consider stopping oil supplies from Saudi Arabia to the United States on April 20.
Oil traders in Europe and Asia believe that the KSA will try to redirect tankers to other markets, which, in turn, will put huge pressure on storage tanks in these two regions.
