Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Visits Lebanon for the First Time in 15 Years

23 January

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, will make a one-day visit to Lebanon to support the country's new leadership.

According to Al Nahar newspaper, Prince Faisal will hold talks with President General Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam, who has been tasked with forming a new government.

This marks the Saudi Foreign Minister's first visit to Beirut in 15 years. The visit signals Riyadh's intent to reestablish its influence in Lebanon amid a decline in Iranian influence and the recent rise of a new regime in Damascus.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, Prince Faisal hailed the election of former Lebanese Army Commander Joseph Aoun as president on January 9 as a positive step following over two years of political deadlock. He expressed hope that Lebanon's new government would be formed as soon as possible.
