On August 6, the diplomatic mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia officially commenced its operations in Iran. This development was reported by the IRNA news agency on Wednesday, with reference to a source within Iran's Foreign Ministry.
"The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Islamic Republic of Iran has formally commenced its operations in our nation as of Sunday, the 15th of Mordad [equivalent to August 6 in the Gregorian calendar]," the statement affirmed.
On March 10, Tehran and Riyadh reached an agreement to reestablish diplomatic ties and recommence embassy functions within a span of two months. Subsequently, on June 6, Iran's embassy in Riyadh resumed its operations, marking the end of a seven-year hiatus in diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Tensions between Riyadh and Tehran began escalating in March 2015 when the Saudi-led coalition launched a military campaign in Yemen against the Ansar Allah (Houthis) movement. Following the attacks on the Saudi embassy in Tehran in January 2016, Saudi Arabia severed its diplomatic relations with Iran.
