Second IL-76 of Russian Air Force to deliver 145 Russians to Moscow from Kazakhstan

The second plane of the military transport aviation of the Russian Air Force with Russian citizens on board has departed from the airfield in Almaty to Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Tuesday.


"The Russian Defense Ministry's IL-76 will deliver 145 Russian citizens, who arrived in Kazakhstan as tourists, on business trips and on vacation to their relatives. to the Chkalovsky airfield near Moscow," the report said.


Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the evacuation of Russian citizens by defense aircraft "will continue until the task is completed". An airplane of the Defense Ministry flew to Moscow with 145 Russian citizens on board.


On January 2, protests began in several populated areas of Kazakhstan. Within a few days, they escalated into mass riots and attacks on government agencies in many cities of the country. Thousands of people were injured and there were fatalities. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appealed to the Collective Security Treaty Organization for help. Peacekeepers are already on a mission in Kazakhstan. According to authorities, constitutional order has been restored in the republic.


The largest riots occurred in Almaty; the airport was seized. The security forces regained control of the city and the airport, but it has still not resumed operation, leading to the forced cancellation of some flights.
