Secretary-General of the World Muslim Communities Council: terrorists are fighting against Muslims

29 November 2019

ISIS (outlawed in Russia), despite the death of its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, continues to exist and tries to involve young people. This was stated by Secretary-General of the World Muslim Communities Council Mohammed Bechari at the V meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia-Islamic world"  in Ufa.

He reminded that in February 2019, Pope Francis and Sheikh of al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayeb signed an agreement, designed to strengthen ties between Muslims and Christians. Nevertheless, terrorist attacks are conducted against both Muslims and Christians.

Bechari called on Muslim countries to consolidate more actively in condemning any manifestations of terrorism in any territories, as well as the forces that support this terrorism.

The topic of this year's meeting of the GSV, chaired by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov,  is "Interfaith harmony:  the experience of Russia and member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)".

The event is timed to the 50th anniversary of the Organization, as well as to the 90th anniversary of the outstanding Russian political and public figure, one of the founders of the GSV "Russia – Islamic world" - Yevgeny Primakov.
