Security council of RF: Russia does everything to minimize risks of nuclear weapons use

23 September 2022

A nuclear war should never be unleashed, and there can be no winners in such a confrontation, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Alexander Venediktov said Friday at a conference to mark the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

"We have repeatedly stated and continue to state our commitment to the well-known formula that there can be no winners in a nuclear war and it must never be unleashed," Venediktov said.

He added that Russia does everything to minimize the risks of the use of nuclear missiles by anyone in the world.

"The specter of nuclear threat, which seemed to have gone into the past after the end of the confrontation between the USSR and the US, is looming again on the horizon. I would like to note that it is by no means Russia's fault,  Russia has done and continues to do everything to minimize the risks of a nuclear missile being used by anyone in the world," he stressed.

The Russian Federation tried until the very last minute to get the US to negotiate a new security equation, he said.
