Washington’s announcement of a Palestinian-Israeli settlement plan known as the "deal of the century" has at least brought this issue to the forefront of world politics, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

“It happened that now when the“ deal of the century ”was put forward by the USA, the Palestinian problem immediately came to the forefront of world politics, although until recently it was in the "pen". Therefore, it always important to see the benefits and take advantage of the increased attention to the inadmissibility of continuing the impasse on this issue and try to mobilize the world community to help find a solution that will be acceptable to both parties,”  Russian Foreign Minister noted, in particular.

US President Donald Trump announced the details of the "deal of the century" on January 28. According to the document, Jerusalem is recognized as the capital of Israel, Palestine becomes an independent, but demilitarized state, virtually devoid of control over its borders. As the future capital of Palestine, the plan proposes the village of Abu Dis in the eastern suburbs of Jerusalem, located behind a security fence. Palestine categorically rejected the US plan. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League and the European Union made statements on the unacceptability of the document.
