Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu at a conference call at the National Center for Defense Management told how Victory Day will be celebrated in Russia against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic.

“On May 9, in all military districts and in the Northern Fleet, wreaths and flowers will be laid at the monuments and memorials to soldiers, and military honors will be given to the fallen heroes. In memory of them, at 19 o’clock a minute of silence will be announced everywhere, ”the head of the military department is quoted by RIA Novosti.

The military parade, according to Shoygu, will be postponed to a later date. On May 9 75 planes and helicopters will fly over Red Square. Also, air parades will be held in 47 cities of Russia and at military bases abroad.

Veterans of the Great Patriotic War will be individually congratulated in the garrisons, they will be presented gifts and souvenirs.

Young Army Cadets will take part in the  “Call to Veteran” and “Postcard to Veteran” online projects.

The "Immortal Regiment" this year will be held in video format.

“People on the balconies will stand with photos of their relatives - participants of the Great Patriotic War and sing the song “Victory Day ” together. Across the country, specially equipped military vehicles will drive on the streets of cities and towns and congratulate with songs from the front years. Celebrations will end with the fireworks, ”said the head of the Ministry of Defense.

Each salvo will be named after a war hero, a military formation, or a memorable event.
