Shoigu: Russian Armed Forces are guarantors of peace in Syria and Karabakh

23 December 2021

The Russian grouping of troops stationed in Syria is a guarantor of maintaining peace in that country, as are the personnel of the Russian Armed Forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday.

"For more than a year, Russian peacekeepers have been providing conditions for the establishment of peaceful life in Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding areas, helping to restore relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. So far, not a single serious incident has been allowed. Also, the Russian group of troops still acts as a guarantor of maintenance of peace in Syria," said the Minister at the plenary session of the Public Council under the Defense Ministry of Russia.

He reported that since the beginning of the year Russian servicemen carried out 348 humanitarian operations in Syria and distributed over 650 tons of food and other essential goods.
