Shooting at the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border stopped

The exchange of fire between the military of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which began on Friday at the common section of the border between the two states, has ceased. This was reported by the Border Service of the State Committee of National Security of Kyrgyzstan.


"The exchange of fire has ended, there are wounded on both sides," the report said.


According to the border agency, border officials from both republics are at the scene of the shooting.


"The parties are negotiating to clarify the details of the incident," the report said.


Earlier, Kyrgyzstan recorded the transfer of heavy military equipment by Tajikistan to the area of armed conflict on the border. The Border Guard Service (BGS) of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (SCNS) reported this on Friday.


"The exchange of fire between Kyrgyz and Tajik border units on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border continues. Moreover, the State Border Guard Service of the SCNS has recorded the relocation of military heavy equipment by the Tajik side to the borderline," the report reads.


The situation on the border between the two countries escalated on June 3. According to the Kyrgyz side, the Tajik servicemen illegally entered Kyrgyz territory near the town of Bulak-Bashy, Batken district, Batken region. They ignored the demand to leave the territory of the neighboring state, after which an exchange of fire began.
