An exchange of fire occurred Tuesday morning on the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border. One border guard from Tajikistan was killed. It is reported by the Asia-Plus news agency.
According to its information, in the morning of Tuesday, at about 06:00 local time (04:00 Moscow time) in the locality Keh, 10 kilometers from the center of Jamoat (Vorukh District of Isfara, Sughd Region) border guards from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan exchanged fire. The agency quotes a report from the residents of the area who claimed that " there was a casualty - a service conscription soldier". This information has not yet been officially confirmed.
The agency's report claims that the fire, including mortars, was opened by the Kyrgyz side. It is also reported that the border guards of the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and the Sughd region of Tajikistan have already held telephone conversations and the heads of the border guard units have left for the scene of the incident.
The Tajik-Kyrgyz border is more than 980 kilometers long and after the collapse of the Soviet Union there were dozens of disputed areas on it. To date, more than 663 km have been identified and agreed upon in the process of delimitation and demarcation. In some areas, disputes and conflicts between local residents of the border areas arise from time to time.
