Shoygu urged Armenia and Azerbaijan to comply with Moscow agreement on Karabakh

Russian Defense Minister General Sergey Shoygu called on Armenian and Azerbaijani Defense Ministers David Tonoyan and Zakir Hasanov to fully implement the obligations of the Nagorno-Karabakh agreement reached in Moscow, the Russian military department reported.


According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Shoygu had telephone talks with the heads of the two defense departments.

 

 

"During the talks, Defense Minister of the Russian Federation General of Army Sergey Shoygu called on his colleagues to fully fulfill the obligations of the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides in accordance with agreements reached in Moscow on October 10," the ministry said.


As a result of consultations held in Moscow on the initiative of the Russian side, Baku and Yerevan agreed on a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh from 12:00 local time (11:00 Moscow time) on October 10 for humanitarian purposes to exchange prisoners and bodies.


In addition, in Moscow, Baku and Yerevan also agreed to start substantive negotiations through the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs in order to reach a peaceful settlement of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh as soon as possible. The sides confirmed that the format of the negotiation process remained unchanged.
