President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt has declared that Israel's actions in Palestinian territories and Lebanon are unacceptable and pose a significant threat to the existing global order. This statement was made during an extraordinary summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Riyadh.
“In no uncertain terms, we assert that the Middle East and indeed the entire world are at a pivotal moment in history. The aggression in Palestinian territories and Lebanon is intolerable; it jeopardizes the very fabric of the current world order,” el-Sisi emphasized. His remarks were broadcasted by his office.
The Egyptian leader stressed that his nation “will oppose any attempts to resolve the Palestinian issue through the forced displacement of civilians or the transformation of Gaza into an uninhabitable zone.” He firmly believes that “regional peace and development can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.” Addressing the situation in Lebanon, Sisi reaffirmed Cairo's support for Lebanese state institutions, including the army, and called for the immediate implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
“Despite these challenges, Egypt remains confident in the possibility of preserving our region and attaining stability and prosperity,” Sisi concluded. He underscored that his country “still views peaceful coexistence as the only strategic option for the Middle East” and will continue to adhere to international law in resolving conflicts.
This year's meeting in Riyadh is marked by a more tense atmosphere than last year's, as participants now face not only the issue of resolving the Gaza conflict but also the escalating tensions between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement. In September, Israel launched a military operation against Shiite militia formations, conducting extensive airstrikes on targets believed to be used by Hezbollah supporters.
