Situation on Kyrgyz-Tajik border reportedly stable

The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, where shootings took place on September 14, remains stable, Border Guard Service of Kyrgyzstan reported.


"The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is relatively stable. The night was peaceful, no incidents were registered," the statement said.


In accordance with earlier reached agreements, the sides "completed disengagement of troops from the disputed border area to their permanent duty stations overnight." "Police forces jointly patrolled border areas," the report reads.



Border guard squads "were not deployed to undelimited border areas", added the Border Guard Service. "The Border Guard Service of the SCNS of Kyrgyzstan continues making efforts on stabilization of the situation on Kyrgyz-Tajik border in Batken region," the statement stressed.


According to the Kyrgyz side, on September 14, Tajik border guards entered an unmarked section of the border near Bulak-Bashy area of Batken district of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and "took up combat positions." In response to the Kyrgyz soldiers' demand to leave the area, the Tajik border guards opened fire, followed by shootings. A few hours later, there was also a shooting in Kak-Sai and Pasky-Aryk of Batken region. The Kyrgyz side reported two servicemen and three civilians wounded in the incident.
