Slutsky called the threat of sanctions against Russia over Belarus a manifestation of double standards

The possible imposition of US sanctions against Russia for allegedly interfering in the affairs of Belarus will be a manifestation of double standards, as it is the West that is trying to shake up the situation in this Republic. This opinion was expressed on Wednesday by the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky.

"The masks are off, the double standards are back in action. Reuters, citing a senior representative of the US administration, reported that the US may consider imposing new sanctions against Russia in the event of "more open interference in the affairs of Belarus," Slutsky wrote in his Telegram channel. He noted that it is Washington that pursues a policy of "unceremonious interference in the affairs of sovereign states around the world", and the Baltic States have already declared Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko persona non grata.

The head of the Committee noted that the Baltic countries are trying to present the situation as "if Belarus has set up "democratic neighbors"against itself. "However, it is obvious that the instruction to take up arms against Minsk was received by the Balts from their Western curators," the MP is convinced. "A Reuters leak from the same series. This is nothing more than an attempt to blame Russia for the failure of its own attempts to shake up the situation in Belarus. Cynical and brazen logic, " - said Slutsky.

The MP again pointed out that Russia is categorically against interference in the affairs of Belarus from outside. "Belarusians should independently deal with the constitutional reform and how to live on. Moscow, having specific and legally clear obligations within the framework of the Union state and the CSTO, is ready to provide assistance-without any encroachments on the sovereignty of Minsk," he concluded.
