The United States, by imposing extraterritorial sanctions against Iran, opposes itself to the entire world community and undermines the authority of the UN. This opinion was expressed to journalists by the head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky, commenting on the decree of the President of the United States Donald Trump on restrictions against those who will be involved in the supply of weapons to Iran.

"The United States is absolutely wrong to try to assume the role of the UN Security Council by imposing extraterritorial anti-Iranian sanctions," Slutsky said.

According to him, the United States "thus opposes itself to the entire world community, undermines the authority of the UN and tries to make all other countries dance to their tune." "This is a direct challenge to international law and the United Nations. And it should not go unanswered," he added.

The head of the Committee also stated that "Washington has a complete fiasco in trying to push" the restoration of sanctions against Tehran through the Security Council. "However, now President Trump has decided to restore the arms embargo by his sole executive order. It turns out that the UN has no authority for the United States? " concluded Slutsky.

As previously reported by the assistant to the American leader for national security, Robert O'Brien, Trump signed a decree on American sanctions against those who will be involved in the supply of weapons to Iran. It's about restricting the Republic's access to nuclear technologies, technologies for the production of ballistic missiles and conventional weapons.
