Soviet diplomats who went to the Hajj

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Russian Federation's accession to the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Permanent mission of Russia to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), together with the Russian Embassy in Saudi Arabia and the Group of strategic vision  "Russia-Islamic world", as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is holding an international videoconference "At the origins of modern diplomatic relations with the Islamic world: the life and fate of Karim Khakimov and Nazir Torekulov".


The conference dedicated to the memory of outstanding Soviet diplomats Karim Khakimov and Nazir Torekulov will be held on the Zoom platform.

 

 

  • Soviet Russia was the first country to recognize Saudi Arabia
  • Moscow supplied kerosene to the Arabian Peninsula
  • Communist diplomats performed the Hajj with the permission of the Soviet authorities

 

Representatives of Russia, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia will discuss all these and other interesting facts related to the life of Khakimov and Torekulov, who worked in Hedjaz, Yemen and Saudi Arabia in the twenties and thirties of the last century.


The video conference is expected to be attended by the head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov, member of the Board for Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian economic Commission Tair Mansurov, Deputy Secretary-General of the OIC Askar Musinov, Deputy Chairman of the Group of strategic vision  "Russia-Islamic world" Farit Mukhametshin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation Oleg Ozerov and many others.
