Spiritual Assembly called on Muslims not to break self-isolation during Ramadan

08 April 2020

The Council of Ulema of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia (SAMR) called on Muslims to conduct prayers during the upcoming month of Ramadan without violating the regime of self-isolation.

"Under these circumstances, it is unacceptable to violate the measures taken by the authorities to prevent the spread of coronavirus among the population. Guided by the requirements of common sense and taking into account the requirements of the law, the members of the Ulema Council determined that Tarawih namaz can only be performed at home… Thus, this prayer will not be performed in a collective format in mosques and structural divisions of the SAMR. The decision to perform Tarawih-namaz will be considered valid until May 23 of this year or until another decision is made, " the fatwa published on the website of the SAMR reads, in particular.

Recall that this year the Holy month of Ramadan will come on April 24 and will last until May 23. In Russia, due to the threat of the spread of the coronavirus, non-working days have been declared until the end of April, during which citizens are obliged to stay at home and observe a regime of self-isolation.
