Syria requested medicines from Russia to fight the coronavirus

02 July 2020

Damascus has asked Moscow for a list of medicines to fight the coronavirus, and there was a discussion of their delivery to Syria, Deputy Minister of Health of the SAR Ahmad Khleifavi said RIA Novosti.

"There is cooperation between the two countries (the Russian Federation and the SAR) in all directions. There was a request to the Russian side to provide us with some medicines necessary in the fight against the coronavirus. We at the moment are discussing their supply,"  Khleifavi said.

The Syrian politician noted that the new US sanctions had further increased pressure on the health sector, which had complicated the already difficult process of supplying essential medicines and equipment.

The Ministry of Health, in turn, has taken measures to support the increase in production of medicines by Syrian state-owned factories in order to avoid a shortage of necessary drugs in the domestic market.

Syria also continues to cooperate with Iran in the field of health, and the SAR Ministry of Health plans to reach an agreement with India in the near future.
