Syrian air carriers will launch flights to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which is celebrated this year on June 28. Basem Mansour, Director General of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, said this on Thursday, the Al-Watan newspaper reported.
"The Saudi authorities have granted Syria's request to resume flights between the two countries," he said. - "Now we are waiting for Syrian Airlines and Cham Wings Airlines to open their offices in the kingdom."
As Mansour stressed, the Arab Civil Aviation Organization under the Arab League had earlier informed the Syrian side about resuming operations in Syria after Damascus' membership in the regional community was restored earlier in May. "This move will encourage Arab airlines to fly to Damascus and cross Syrian airspace," the director general said.
On June 1, a Venezuelan airline, Conviasa, landed at Damascus International Airport, making its first direct flight from Caracas after an 11-year hiatus.
According to Mansour, flights between Damascus and Athens have opened, and flights to Dusseldorf and Stockholm are planned to resume soon. "This will give people in Europe the opportunity to travel to Damascus," he pointed out.
