Syria says Israel's strike on Aleppo paralyzed one of its aid channels

The Israeli air attack on Aleppo international airport has paralyzed one of the main channels of humanitarian aid for the earthquake-stricken Syrians. The Syrian foreign ministry said in a statement, the text of which was published by SANA on Tuesday.

"This attack is a double crime as it targeted, on the one hand, a civilian airport and, on the other hand, one of the main channels for the delivery of humanitarian aid from Syria and beyond to the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit the region on February 6," it said.

The Syrian foreign ministry noted that this aggression once again reflects "the worst forms of barbarism and inhumanity" of Israel, as well as its practice of "blatant violations of international law, including international humanitarian law." Furthermore, Damascus warned Israel of the consequences of such crimes and called on the international community to condemn them.

The Israeli armed forces carried out an air strike on Aleppo International Airport on Tuesday night, putting it out of service, SANA reported, citing a source. In this regard, the Syrian ministry of transport said that after the attack it was decided to transfer all flights, including those delivering humanitarian aid to the population of areas affected by the recent earthquakes, to the airports in Damascus and Latakia.

Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 in Turkey and Syria. According to the Syrian health ministry, 1,414 people were killed and 2,349 injured in the Arab republic. According to the statement of the Center for the reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, the death toll in the territories under the control of the government was 3,513 and 7,396 people were injured. There is no confirmed information about the deaths, injuries and destruction in the territory not controlled by Damascus, representatives of the illegal groups operating in the north-west of the country in comments to the Arab media reported more than 2,000 victims.
