Syrian Ambassador Calls for Effective Tools to Combat Terrorism

26 March

Syria's Ambassador to Moscow Bashar Jaafari extended his condolences and solidarity with Russia following the recent terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. He emphasized the need for the development of more effective, multilateral tools to combat terrorism.

"We expressed our deep solidarity with Russia, with President Vladimir Putin, the Russian government, and the Russian people over this terrible terrorist attack that took place at Crocus City Hall on Friday evening," Jaafari said, as he signed the book of condolences opened at the Russian foreign ministry in memory of the victims.

The ambassador noted that the best approach to addressing such collective threats is by activating international mechanisms for combatting terrorism, specifically the creation of "serious and credible instruments, multilateral counter-terrorism instruments." He highlighted that existing mechanisms have proven to be ineffective, necessitating serious and credible collective efforts to fight terrorism in general.

Jaafari stressed that Syria remains committed to confronting terrorism. "A terrorist crime committed against Russia is carried out simultaneously against all those who stand with Russia. Therefore, any terrorist act must be uncovered, as well as [identifying] those who committed it and those who planned the act. Today, we support Russia just as we supported Russia yesterday, and just as we will oppose all types of terrorist acts," the Syrian ambassador concluded.
