BRICS currently comprises 10 nations. South Africa joined the original membership of Brazil, Russia, India, and China in 2011. In August 2023, six new members were invited to join the association, including Argentina, which declined. Five new members - Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia - began full-fledged participation in BRICS on January 1, 2024.
