Conducting the special Russian military operation in Ukraine is in the interests of the peoples of the world, Syrian Ambassador to Moscow Riyad Haddad said on Friday at a meeting of the international forum of public diplomacy dedicated to the five-year anniversary of the Assembly of Peoples of Eurasia at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.
"For centuries, the Eurasian region has been the center of cultural, economic and civilizational interaction between the peoples of the East and the West. <...> Today, the importance of this communication and cooperation at all levels, especially at the public and humanitarian levels, is increasing due to the global events that we are witnessing against the background of the Russian special operation to protect the people of Donbass, eradicate Nazism and prevent Ukraine from turning into a dagger that not only [can] stab Russia in the back, but also cut off the civilization and human communication between the East and the West," he said.
The diplomat stressed that Syria was the first country that supported Russia's special operation in Ukraine, "knowing that it is in the interests of the peoples of the world".
He also noted that in recent decades, the West has been engaged in imposing its vision on other nations.
In addition, Haddad pointed to the large amount of misinformation in the Western media regarding Russia. "We all see and hear on a daily basis the enormous amount of lies, hypocrisy and disinformation practiced by the Western, international media with respect to Russia and its operation, as well as attempts by some Western countries to distort the image of Russia, the Russian people because of the arrogance practiced by some of these countries with respect to other nations," the ambassador said.
