Syrian Ambassador to Moscow Riyad Haddad said that the information of some Western media that Russian ships deliver grain from Ukraine from Sevastopol to the Syrian port of Tartus is not true.
"As for wheat deliveries from Russia, they are carried out under long-term contracts that were signed before the Russian military operation in Ukraine began. These are exactly Russian wheat deliveries, especially since Russia has been the main wheat supplier to Syria for many years," he said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper on Wednesday.
According to the ambassador, the delivery of grain to Syria from Russia is taking place in accordance with the plans and contracts signed between the two sides since last year. Riyad Haddad noted that the agreed shipments are delivered on time without any delays and without changing prices.
Earlier, the Crimean authorities called rumors that grain from the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions was being exported to Syria through the peninsula untrue. Deputy Prime Minister and Permanent Representative of Crimea to the Russian President Georgy Muradov told TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) that exports to the Arab country come from Crimea and other Russian regions.
