Syrian Ambassador to the Russian Federation reports on the West and Turkey sending IS fighters to Ukraine

04 July 2022

The West, led by the US, together with Turkey, is smuggling fighters of the international terrorist organization banned in Russia, the Islamic State (IS), to Ukraine. Syrian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Riyad Haddad said this in an interview with TASS.

"We are not surprised that the United States, the West and Turkey are transferring fighters of the terrorist organizations IS and Jabhat al-Nusra (both banned in Russia - TASS) from Idlib to Ukraine, as these groups, although they have different names, are tools used by the West against peaceful peoples," the diplomat said. According to him, this will turn Ukraine into a center of accumulation of terrorists and mercenaries, which, in turn, will bring negative consequences for security in the world.

Earlier, the head of the SVR press bureau, Sergey Ivanov, said that the United States was actively recruiting Islamic State fighters to take part in military operations in Ukraine as mercenaries.
