Syrian Foreign Ministry Condemns Israeli Strike on Damascus as a 'Barbaric Crime'

09 October

Syria's Foreign Ministry condemned an Israeli strike on a residential building in Damascus, calling it a "barbaric crime" and once again urging international action to restrain Israel.

"The Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns this barbaric crime against defenseless civilians, which is a continuation of the genocide perpetrated  [by Israel] against Palestinians and Lebanese," the ministry stated in a post on its Facebook page (banned in Russia; belongs to Meta Corporation, extremist organization in Russia).

The ministry stressed the "urgent need to take measures to restrain" Israel, warning that its actions could have "catastrophic consequences" for the region.

Earlier, Syria’s Ministry of Defense reported that seven people were killed and 11 injured in the Israeli strike on a residential building in the Mezzah district of the Syrian capital. According to Al Hadath, the targeted building was less than 1 km from the Iranian embassy in Syria. The Iranian diplomatic mission confirmed that no Iranian citizens were harmed in the attack.

Al Hadath also reported that the target of the Israeli strike was a supporter of the Lebanese Shia organization Hezbollah.
