The West is persistently trying to use the UN Human Rights Council to impose its double standards on the world, Syrian Foreign and Emigrants Affairs Minister Faisal Mekdad said on Tuesday in a speech at the ongoing session of the HRC in Geneva.
"Syria deplores the fact that Western countries persistently and persistently use the UNHRC and its mechanisms to impose their double standards on human rights and accuse [other] states of violating them, using this as a pretext to interfere in [those states'] internal affairs," Mekdad said, as quoted by SANA.
He added that the Syrian leadership's efforts to achieve sustainable development of the republic are blocked by the efforts of several countries that "put political goals above humanitarian considerations" and seek to use sanctions and the economic blockade to create unbearable living conditions for Syrians.
